We recommend you to visit the following places
Santa Bárbara Castle
It is seated close to the city centre and beaches. Appreciate a breathtaking panoramic view of the sea, city, and its surroundings.
Be sure to plunge into the city's history and culture!
Cathedral of Saint Nicolas
It is a unique historical monument and a Spanish architecture showpiece of the 16th and 17th centuries. The Cathedral was devoted to Saint Nicolas—the patron saint of the city. Although the exterior of the Cathedral is quite austere, its interior impresses everybody.
The guilded altar and the Chapel of Holy Communion are the main features of the Cathedral.
Plaza of the City Hall (Plaza del Ayuntamiento)
Stroll along the main tourist attraction in Alicante. In the centre, a fountain jets water right out of the stone pavers. Here, you can enjoy a coffee with a dessert or an ice-cream, sitting at the street cafe tables placed around.
One of the towers is decorated with the famous city clock—the citizens have business appointments and dates here.
Basilica of Santa Maria
The basilica was built in the 13th century over the remains of a former mosque. Two elaborately carved towers arise on both sides of the entrance. There is a functioning ancient clock in the upper part of one of the towers.
Pay your attention to the high altar designed in the 17th century, as well as to the exquisite chapels.

Tips and tricks
It can cost much to stay in touch with your family and friends: prices for a 2 Gb package usually start with 15 euros. It would be better to buy a local SIM card (Vodafone, Movistar, or Orange). Other mobile operators use the infrastructure of the above mentioned ones, that is why the prices for their services will be much higher.
The municipality owns all city beaches of Alicante, so they are absolutely free. Tourists usually pay for renting umbrellas and sun loungers. If you plan to spend a lot of time enjoying the sunshine and the breeze, it would be better to buy an umbrella and a beach mat. Do not forget to take sunscreen, a headdress, and sunglasses with you.
The local markets are a true gastronomic paradise: you will find here a wide variety of vegetables and fruits, herbs and spices, as well as a huge assortment of seafood. Markets are open daily until 2 PM. Mercado Central is the largest and the most popular market in Alicante. If you arrive before the closing time, you can get good discounts!
Choose cafés and restaurants located outside the tourist areas in order to enjoy live music, delicious wine, and mouth-watering tapas.
Be sure to try the traditional Spanish sweet called turron. It is a tasty nougat made of honey, nuts, egg white, and sugar.
For visiting cathedrals and temples, wear closed clothes (otherwise you will not be allowed to enter the shrines).
