We recommend you to visit the following places
Plaka and Monastiraki Neighborhoods
These are the most picturesque and busy areas of Athens. Plaka attracts travelers with its narrow streets, atmospheric neoclassical houses, as well as an abundance of ancient sights. Monastiraki is known for its huge open-air market where you can buy everything including fresh fruits and antiquities.
Changing of the Guards
It takes place at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier situated on Syntagma Square. The ceremony is incredibly popular among travelers. The military outfit consists of a pleated skirt and shoes decorated with pom poms. Every Sunday at 11 am, tourists can enjoy the official ceremony of Changing of the Guards accompanied by orchestra and march.
Athenian Trilogy
An architectural complex encompasses three marble buildings: the University of Athens, the Academy, and the National Library. The neoclassical architecture of the complex is reminiscent of the Ancient Greek temples and stands out against the backdrop of a fast-growing modern metropolis. The snow-white facades of the buildings are guarded by impressive statues of Athena and Apollo.
The Acropolis of Athens
It’s the greatest architectural and artistic complex inherited by the city from the Ancient Greek civilization. The Acropolis is located on the top of a 156-meter hill and can be seen from anywhere in the city. The ruins of ancient masterpieces create an amazing landscape that has become a true symbol of Athens.
The Panathenaic Stadium
It’s the only stadium in the world made entirely of marble. Built in the IV century BC, it was used for celebrations in honor of Athena, the city's patroness. Currently, the stadium is an operational sports facility: it attracts not only classical architecture admirers, but also athletes and fitness enthusiasts.
Mount Lycabettus
The highest peak of Athens reaches 277 meters above sea level offering breathtaking views of the lovely coastline and the city. Due to the abundance of pine trees, Lycabettus is considered one of the largest green areas in Athens. On the slope, there is an amphitheater: Greek and foreign orchestras perform here quite often.
Syntagma Square
The heart of Athens is the center of social and political life where all the main exhibitions, concerts, marches, and rallies take place. Around the square, there are many iconic sights such as the Hellenic Parliament, the National Garden, and the luxurious Hotel Grande Bretagne that hosts celebrities and VIP-guests of the city.

Tips and tricks
In order to buy souvenirs, head to Plaka and Monastiraki central neighbourhoods where you will find a flea market and lots of shops with jewellery, original works of art, antiquities, as well as clay and leather goods.
Please note that souvenir shops and grocery stores are closed during siesta (from 3 PM to 5 PM).
Forget the usual schedule of meals. If you go to a restaurant before 9:30 PM, it will most likely be empty. Greeks prefer to enjoy afternoon coffee at 6 or 7 PM and then have dinner only around 10 PM.
Tips in restaurants and cafés are already included in the price. When paying in cash, use banknotes and round up the total amount.
Be sure to stop by the Loukoumades café located at Eolou 21. You will definitely like the traditional Greek dessert (deep-fried donuts with honey and cinnamon).
Greeks talk and laugh quite loudly. They gesticulate a lot, as well as hug and kiss each other on the cheek when greeting, so do not be surprised when you see such a behaviour.
