Tips and tricks

  • If it’s your first visit to Budapest and you want to have access to all the main tourist attractions, choose hotels located in Inner City, the historical district called Belváros-Lipótváros. Fans of noisy nightlife should pay attention to the Jewish Quarter.
  • In shops, it is always better to pay in local currency (i.e. forints). Prices in euros are much higher.
  • We don’t recommend using currency exchange offices located at the airport or in such popular tourist places as Váci Street. Avoid the currency exchange offices that work both on weekends and late in the evening: the exchange rate in such places is very unfavourable.
  • Try Lángos fried flatbread: it is served either with butter, grated cheese, sour cream and ham, or with powdered sugar and jam.
  • In restaurants, the visitors usually leave a 10% tip. It is considered rude to put money on the table: give it directly to the waiter.
