Tips and tricks

  • Summer in Cyprus can be very hot, so drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and don’t forget to protect your skin from the sun!
  • There are such traditional dishes of Cypriot cuisine as Sheftalia sausage, Souvla meat (which is roasted on an open fire), and stuffed grape leaves called Gemista. You can taste all these delicacies in Koutourou, Tsiakkas, or Fetta’s taverns.
  • It’s cheaper to buy groceries and essentials in supermarkets. Kato Paphos district offers the excellent PopLife and Papantoniou shops. But there are no large malls or boutiques situated nearby: if you want to buy clothes, shoes, or electronics, head to the city centre. The best places for shopping in Paphos are Makariou, Apostolou Pavlou, and Nicodemou Milona streets.
  • Local shops (except for large malls) usually close for siesta which takes place between 1 PM and 4 PM. Wednesday and Saturday are considered shortened working days, that’s why many supermarkets may not be open in the afternoon. Please note that on Sundays, all shops located in the central Pano Paphos district are closed.
  • If you want to surprise your loved ones with unique souvenirs, choose olive oil, spices, Halumi or Anari cheese, Commandaria sweet wine, and such pieces of local art as Lefkara silver filigree. In order to avoid paying extra money, buy these goods in small shops situated far away from tourist places.
