• If you want to change currency at a favorable rate, head to banks or exchange offices located in the tourist areas. Note that most shops and restaurants of Punta Cana accept dollars, so don’t try to exchange all your money at once.
• The official currency of the Dominican Republic (i.e. peso) is indicated on the price tags as DOP or RD$. Sometimes the name of the peso is abbreviated and written simply as a $ sign. Do not confuse it with dollars (1 dollar approximately equals to 53 pesos).
