Tips and tricks

  • The roads in Venice are paved with stones and can be quite rough. It would be better to wear comfortable shoes before going for a walk.
  • Small tips are considered rude, while big ones can be viewed as arrogant. Acceptable amount of reward for the excellent service can range from 5 to 10 euros.
  • Be sure to check out the Venetian Bacaro taverns. At an affordable price, you can have a glass of wine, Spritz cocktail, and a popular local snack called cicchetti (it tastes like Spanish tapas).
  • In order to save money on entrance tickets and not to waste time in long queues at the tourist attractions, be sure to buy Venezia Unica City Pass online.
  • Feeding pigeons can lead to a fine amounting from 50 to 200 euros. And for eating outside the restaurant on St Mark’s Square, the tourists will be punished by a fine of 200 euros.
  • Venetian masks are still popular as souvenirs. You can find handmade masks of excellent quality in the La Bauta shop. And Ca’ Macana store offers its visitors to take part in a master class and paint the mask of their own.
